Austin Texas- I have never been to Austin Texas before this trip. We, meaning Real Pro Systems were headed down for the Mega Agent Camp, and I got the privledge of being on this trip.
Every time I take a trip to a new place I do a little research online before I get on the plane. My thought is that even if I have an extra couple of hours that I am not working that I should take advantage of it and find something new to do. I knew I wanted to find a BBQ joint and I wanted to find out if there were any sports events in tow.
BBQ was the easy part. I found a place called Iron Works BBQ with great recommendations; even one from a co-worker and as it turns out it was only a few blocks from my hotel. If you go to Austin- this isn't a should do- this is a MUST DO.
When it comes to sports I virtually struck out as it were, I did find a couple of minor leage baseball games but they were too close to the end of the trade show, I wouldn't have had enough time to finish out the show and get to the game, never mind eat.
Totally by accident I find out that Austin is famous for something quite unique... BATS. Oh yeah I totally 100% serious. There is bridge in town that is home to something like 150,000 bats. Every evening between, I think they said March and September, just after dusk the bats leaving their sleeping quarters from under the bridge and fly down river. Now I couldn't decide if this was creapy or interesting... I went with a little of both and decided to check this out the first night I was in town. I went down river a little bit... the bridge it's self smelled like a litter box! I sat on a little dock and waited. While I waited the ducks and the turtles played around the dock and the people poured in and just when you thought it would be too dark to see anything here they came. It looked as if someone had peppered the sky as this black stream floated down the river and away from the bridge. Still creapy if you ask me, but intersting too. The silver lining to the bats- there are no bugs... the whole thing a little weird and while the photos I took aren't that good here are a few.
